Wedding Painting

I recently went back home to Florida for my friends Patrick and Mary's wedding.  I decided as a wedding gift, I would paint something for them.  Last time we saw them, we were at Disney World in the pouring rain.  Despite the weather, it was undisputedly the most fun any of us had ever had at Disney.  I decided to go from that idea and paint.

I started with this little concept painting for layout.

After I painted this large, I hated it beyond measure.  So I changed the composition to make the focus less about the castle and more about us running up to it.  Here it is without us:

After getting that where I liked it, I added us on the road up to the castle.

Heres a detail of Brittany and I

And of Patrick and Mary

Once I got this where I liked it, I added the rain to complete the memory.  The color is a little off in this one but you get the idea.

And that about sums it up.  We had a great time in Florida and wish them all the best.  As a bonus, here's the view on the way back.

Poop Brother

This past weekend was my brother's birthday and I did a painting for him.  He's never been known for being..... hygienic.  I decided to paint him like a little troll for some reason.

Here was the sketch:

And here was the painting:

He seemed to approve:

I also worked on a painting for some friends who were getting married (the reason I went back home).  I'll post that up sometime soon as well.  Till then.....

Pirate Girl for Vampire Girl

Brittany's sister has been staying with us for the past few days and she wanted a painting for her dorm back home.  We tossed around a few ideas and she decided on a sassy lady pirate.

Here is the initial sketch she liked:

Then onto the canvas sketch:

And the final painting, a couple hours later:

She seemed to like it.

As an added 'behind the scenes' bonus, I thought I would show you that my phone's camera has face detection.  Even for her.

What they can't do these days....

Rusty Bill

Decided to work on another quick painting.  Here is the sketch I did for it:

And 45 minutes later or so, this is the painting.

I think it lost some of the life of the drawing but thats why I am doing these.  Gotta figure it out.

Tangible Distraction

A while ago on craigslist, I found a listing for a 'few boxes of animation supplies' for free and jumped on it as fast as I could.  Inside the boxes were countless sheets of various sizes of animation paper and way too many blank cels.  I thought it would be cool to utilize those cels somehow and decided to try and create my own cel.  I realize that I was using the wrong paints (acrylic), so the colors are all streaky and thin.  But it was fun to mess around with it anyway.

(I have a newfound respect for the 'Ink and Paint girls' that the Disney documentaries seem to gloss over constantly...)

Paint Thumbnail

After all of this time spent animating, I decided to take a short break this weekend and try my hands at something tangible.  I took one of my designs from the George Lucas post and decided to paint a little thumbnail of it.

Don't ask why he's shirtless out in the middle of the night.  George does what he wants...

It was a lot of fun and I'm hoping to do more in the future and hopefully improve.  Stay posted!
